BRIDAL BLOG POST #4 | 4 Essential Pre-Makeup Tips

The saying ‘less is more’ is probably the most fundamental words when it comes to bridal makeup. As soon as you cross that line of over doing it, it is difficult to undo.

While most brides decide on booking a makeup artist on the day, it is becoming more popular for weddings abroad for brides to want to do their own makeup. Duchess Kate Middleton comes to mind when I say this. Don't get me wrong, I am all about spoiling yourself on the lead up to your day so it's a real personal choice. However, before I mention looks to go for, it is so important to spend more time prepping your skin, brows, facial grooming and enhancing your smile before applying makeup on the morning of your wedding. Here are the tips I recommend.

1. As I mentioned in previous posts, a minimum of 3 months or more pre-planning is so important, especially for skin health. You need to be 100% happy with the condition of your skin, brows, lashes and your smile in advance of the day. I recommend organic charcoal powder as a teeth polisher. With added minerals it is really effective for getting a very natural 2 to 3 shades brighter white smile without harm to your gums and teeth as no chemicals are added. I would recommend to brush your teeth with the powder mixed with a few drops of water after cleaning your teeth then leave on as a mask for 3 minutes before rinsing. Repeat this process for 3 to 4 days consecutively.

2. A lash enhancement treatment called LVL is well worth having done also. It stands for ‘lift volume and length’. Not only will this open your eyes more, it will enhance your eye makeup naturally and without mascara. It lasts 6 to 10 weeks. Makeup artists love when you have it done as it allows easier application of mascara with less risk of the mascara smudging. It also prevents mascara from clumping, giving a very youthful pretty look.

3. Sugaring hair removal for eyebrow tidying, reshaping and any other facial hair is highly recommended. Not only is it so much gentler to waxing, threading and plucking, it is 100% natural with no heat, your skin becomes less dry and more cared for resulting in a fab clean finish. For eyebrow colouring I recommend a vegan tint in brown to dark brown depending on your complexion to enhance your brows. If you have very little eyebrow and need more enhancement brow embroidery is very effective once you go to a recommended therapist that includes a very natural finish.

4. Before you apply makeup on the morning of your wedding I would advise that you exfoliate, apply soothing eye gel and moisturize thoroughly. The reason for this is on the morning of your wedding your body can become a little more stressed (good stress) and you might not have had as much sleep as you hoped for resulting in slightly dryer sensitive skin. This will help to achieve a more flawless finish.

Enjoy all the excitement, talk to you soon,

Erica
